The Recognized Forensic Science Degree or Certification Update

November 20, 2019 by South Carolina Coroners Association

As the current President of the South Carolina Coroner’s Association and a representative on the Coroner’s Training Advisory Committee, I would like to update the recognized forensic science degree or certification program for eligibility to run for office of coroner.

The two recognized programs/certifications are:

  1. The American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators, Inc. (ABMDI)
  2. The Death Investigation Academy

Although neither of these programs/certifications guarantees an individual’s competence, the above options have been reviewed by the committee to meet the needs of this statute, 17-5-130(G) Should there be any additional question, please contact me at the number below,

Sabrina Gast, RN, MSN, F-ABMDI
